Hernán Flores
VP Energy
Hernán is the VP of Energy at Barka Capital, where he has led the development and growth of the group’s hydroelectric portfolio for over two decades.
Joining Barka in 2003, Hernán developed the financial and technical feasibility studies for Hidroabanico and played a critical role in bringing Ecuador’s first private hydroelectric project to completion. In 2023, he led the certification of Hidroabanico and Hidronormandia as Ecuador’s first hydroelectric projects to achieve IREC certification, establishing a milestone in renewable energy certification for the country. Since 2019, Hernán has served as President of the Private Electricity Generators of Ecuador (ADEGEL), where he advocates for the private sector's role in advancing Ecuador’s energy infrastructure.
Earlier in his career, Hernán held roles in Citibank Ecuador’s Operations unit and Repsol-YPF’s FP&A division. He later served as an advisor within the Ministry of Energy, contributing to its renewable energy initiatives as well as the National Directorate of Hydrocarbons (DNH).
Hernán holds an MBA from IDE Business School, a specialization in Project Appraisal and Risk Management (PARM) from Duke University, and a BA in Economics from Universidad Católica.
