Hidroabanico is a 52.9 MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant located in the Morona Santiago province within the Ecuadorian Amazon, 15km away from the city of Macas.
Built in three stages, 15.0 MW in 2006, 37.5 MW in 2007 and 52.9 MW in 2024, Hidroabanico is now the project with the highest capacity in the group’s portfolio.
The project was originally financed by The Inter American Investment Corporation (IIC) & Corporacion Interamericana para el Financiamiento de Infraestructura S.A. (CIFI) under a Project Finance structure which was later refinanced with local debt. It generates >440 GWh of clean energy annually through seven WKV german-made Pelton turbines.
